A eco-conscious property-maintenance platform for homeowners & property managers.
Handy Homes is a platform specially designed for property managers & homeowners to keep on top of their home maintenance needs, with an emphasis on passive & energy efficient improvements.
The Challenge
Busy homeowners, property managers & tenants lack the time and skills to fix any issues that arise with their property, conduct regular maintenance and find available trustworthy tradespeople.
The Goal
Design a subscription service that will help users easily find and book assistance with home repairs and maintenance.
Project Overview
As a UX Designer leading the design of the platform from concept to delivery, I was in charge of conducting interviews, paper and digital wire-framing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs.
Our previous work on a property maintenance app (HandyHomes app) targeted for homeowners revealed that the product was of special interest to property managers & home-owners with one or more rental properties.
We decided to begin work on a dedicated platform, built with this primary user group in mind.
I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs.
Some quick ideation exercises ensured that I could quickly identify the elements to include in the digital wireframes, and that would be well-suited to address user pain points.
For the home screen, I prioritised a quick and easy access to services and upcoming appointments to help users save time.
I also introduced guides on the home-screen to help users quickly find DIY tutorials.
As the initial design phase continued, I made sure to base screen designs on feedback and findings from the user research.
Using the completed set of digital wireframes, I created a low-fidelity prototype.
The primary user flow I connected was selecting and booking a service, so the prototype could be used in a usability study.
Next, we worked on creating mockups based on user testing findings
Next Steps
1
Conduct another usability study to test the latest booking process.
2
Conduct user research to better understand how to organise and group the services on the services page.
3
Conduct user research to identify ways of structuring different subscription plans and prototype a flow for an annual maintenance subscription plan.
